Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the features and the risk factors of alopecia in adult males and recognize measures to prevent alopecia. The research was conducted by distributing surveys to 262 adults aging over 20 in regions of Seoul, Daejeon, Cheonju, Choongnam from February 28 to March 15, 2008. The results are as follows. First, the scalp and hair loss conditions, it appeared to have oily scalps mostly. Regarding the types of alopecia, the research indicated that men have male and female pattern alopecia, the areas of alopecia was the crown part for showing. The logistic regression analysis that is used to determine the essential factor to male alopecia under the control of other variables concluded that family medical history, experiences of disease, experience of taking medicine, and frequency of hair dyeing are the important variables. Moreover, for the female alopecia, it showed that family medical history, experience in child labor, menopause, experiences of disease, frequency of hair dyeing, experiences of permanents, and use of hair dryer were the crucial variables.
