Research Paper : A Study on the Allegory of Beauty Style shown in Music Video

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the various expression of hair and make-up style in music video on the basis of Craig Owens`s Allegory theory. I analyzed four application elements of borrow, specificity, arrange and accumulate, hybridization in music video of the domestic idol star. The results of this study are following as; First, Borrow present the feature of deformation through the distortion and the exaggeration of beauty style of expanding the meaning of ``borrow``. This cause to happen deformation form, playful kitch style and mixed gender. Second, Specificity present through potential shape and incongruity of beauty style. This result from resistance to the old generation and aim to pleasure which is done by destroy the rule and a turn of expression on a typical beauty style. Third, Arrange and Accumulate present a notion of accumulation and simply line-up. This is shown the countercultural tendency through the random repetition of simple and same beauty items. And it makes a new beauty style through. Finally, Hybridization present through blend different cultures. The Young distinguishes adult generation from multicultural identity.
