Research Paper : The Analysis of Working Environment and the Prospect of Manpower Supply and Demand in Beauty Industry

Abstract
This study was conducted to 370 beauty-industry employees from 7 metro cities: Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu, Pusan, Ulsan to foresee manpower supply and demand of beauty industry and to promote development future measurements. The 370 participants of the study were given structured survey regarding their working environment and forms of employment. Regarding working environment, daily average working hours in particular, majority of 34.4% participants answered that they work over 10 hours a day, which exceeds legal 8 hours/day as stated in the Labor Standard Act. Moreover, 56.1% of participants had answered that in a month they have 4 daysoff, which shows that large number of workers work more than 6 days weekly. The study showed 48% of participants signed employment contract at the time of employment, and 57.6% had no formal agreement on pension, thus are not subject to Labor Standard Act. Surveys on 4 social insurance shows join ratio of 50.8% in National Pension, 52.5% in Health Insurance, 47.8% in Unemployment Insurance, 48.7% in Occupational Health and Safety Insurance. On prospect of manpower supply and demand of beauty industry, 43.1% increase of 253,391 in 2015 from 177,062 in 1997. Beauty industry demographics based on the new supply of manpower, is expected to grow by 37.1% from high school, 14.4% from university undergraduate, 17.5% from university graduate, 32.3% in graduate school. The prediction showed although the growth is expected to slow down between the university graduates, rapid growth is expected within high school and graduate school. This raises stronger emphasis on need for advanced and specialized human resources management system.
