The heavy metal contents in hair of the people who lived in Seoul and visited hospital for alopecia were analyzed. The results are as follows, 1. Cadmium, arsenic, thallium, antimony, and beryllium were accumulated for exceeding the reference range. 2. Mercury (p<.001), arsenic (p<.01), antimony (p<.001) were more detected in man more than in women. barium (p<.001), bismuth (p<.05), thallium (p<.05) were more detected in women than in man. They were all statistically significant. 3. Depending on the age. the mercury content in the hair increased gradually. There was a statistically significant difference (p<.01). Especially mercury content (1.2904 ppm) of the people who aged over the fifty were accumulated for exceeding the reference range. 4. Lead (p<.05), aluminum (p<.05), arsenic (p<.01) were more detected in the state of nature hair than in the state of the perm and staining. Barium (p<.001), bismuth (p<.05), thallium (p<.05) were more detected in the state of the perm and staining than in the state of nature hair. They were all statistically significant.
