| Abstract |
|
In this regard, this study aims to investigate unique characteristics of characters in the films of Tim Burton through an analysis on the color, shape, texture and object of character makeup design in Tim Burton films and attempts to present basic data on the design elements of character makeup. The research results can be summarized as follows. First, the colors of character makeup design in the films of Tim Burton turned out to be characterized by strong brightness contrast of achromatic colors, color contrast between cold, muddy, saturated colors and vivid tones that express the inspiration of the unique fantasy and saturation contrast. Second, a characteristic in the form is the drastic use of curved and straight lines, and an analysis showed that the shape of a straight line is used to express cool and sharp characters, and that of a curved line represents fairy tale-like and abstract form of characters in fantasy films. Third, dry and matte textures dominate texture features, and other satin and velvet textures also can be seen, Accordingly, the analysis results found that dry and matte textures have mainly been utilized in the character makeup in the films of Tim Burton. Fourth, the feature of Tim Burton`s film completes the characters`` image and that contains mainly symbolism and the meaning of implication. Through this is study, formative feature is analysed according to the Tim Burton`s aesthetic feature. This is an important feature that expression of distinguished character related to aesthetic feature by direct of Tim Burton. Therefore, as an area of formative arts character make-up take an important role of communication with the public. In this way it is crucial that to create and develop the various characters instead of passive and ordinary type of make-up. |
