Beauty Service Workers` Participation in Workplace Learning Activities and Perception of Improvement of Occupational Capacity Effect after Participating in Workplace Learning Activities

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the types of workplace learning activities where beauty service providers took place and their perception of improvement of occupational abilities after participating in workplace learning activities. Among the employees of beauty service industries located in Seoul and Gyeonggi with two or more employees, 648 employees were selected as subjects through convenience sampling for a survey for three months from January to March in 2016. Data processing and analysis used the SPSS 22.0 program. As a result, first, the employees participated in the workplace learning activities provided by beauty service industries in the following order: 89.7% in on-the-job training (OJT), 83.3% in systematic on-the-job training (S-OJT), 62.5% in collective internal technical training, 58.3% in official mentoring and coating activities. Second, the most popular workplace learning activities in which they participated for personal development were: unofficial mentoring or coaching (64.5%), certificate or diploma programs (55.7%), and degree programs (52.3%). Third, beauty service employees working for the direct-managed franchise businesses participated in more various workplace learning activities provided by their industries compared to the employees of other franchise businesses and personal businesses. In conclusion, beauty service industries should provide the employees with various workplace learning activities for the improvement of overall performance considering that beauty service employees are participating in various workplace learning activities for personal development in addition to the workplace learning activities provided by the industries and their participation is found effective for improving occupational capacities
