Evaluation of the Cosmeceutical Activity of Ethanol Extracts from Hericium Erinaceum

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity, and anti inflammatory activity of 30, 50, 70, and 90 % ethanol extracts of Hericium erinaceum. In DPPH assay, 90 % ethanol extract showed the highest inhibition rate of 74.61 % (IC50 414.87 ppm) and the antioxidative activity of ABTS showed more than 80 % of active oxygen inhibition in ethanol extracts of 30, 50, 70 and 90 % (5000-10000 ppm). The IC50 value of the 90 % ethanol extract was the highest at 252.01 ppm but there was no significant difference from the 70 % ethanol extract (IC50 258.81 ppm). Tyrosinase inhibition activity was the highest in ethanol extracts of 90 % (inhibition rate 74.27 %, IC50 91.25 ppm), followed by 70 % ethanol extract(156.75 ppm), 50 % ethanol extract(314.06 ppm) and 30 % ethanol extract(603.95 ppm). As a result of measuring the decrease rate of NO production in the ethanol extract of Hericium erinaceum, 90 % ethanol extract showed 94.52 % NO production decreasing rate, and 30, 50 and 70 % ethanol extract showed about 50 % decrease in NO production. The results showed that 90 % ethanol extracts showed the best antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity and anti inflammatory activity.
