A Study on the Effects of Depression Symptoms on Skin and Nail Care Behavior among Postmenopausal Women in their 50s
Ji Young Lee
Abstract
This study investigated the differences between skin care behavior and nail care behavior and attempted to determine the effects of depression symptoms on the skin and nail care behavior among postmenopausal women in their 50s. For this, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed, using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0. The results found the following: In terms of differences with skin care behavior, a statistically significant difference was found in monthly income, marital satisfaction, miscarriage experience, menopause experience and experience of hormone treatment. Regarding differences with nail care behavior, a statistically significant difference was observed in education, monthly income, marital satisfaction, miscarriage experience, menopause experience and experience of hormone treatment. In terms of the effects of depression symptoms on skin and nail care behavior, a statistically significant influence was confirmed. In particular, skin and nail care behavior was more important in the following groups: Groups with low marital satisfaction, groups having had a miscarriage experience, groups in the postmenopausal period and groups with the experience of hormone treatment. In terms of external, internal (positive) and internal (negative) depression factors, a statistical significance was found in both behavior categories. Therefore, it appears that the results would be useful in planning a new marketing strategy for postmenopausal women in their 50s during the development of skin and nail care behavior programs.
