A Qualitative Study about Competency of Educational Instructor in Aroma Therapy

Abstract
The purpose of this study presents the need of capabilities of an educational instructor in aroma therapy. A method of study that is used were in-depth interview for data collection, and a method of constant comparison analyze the qualitative research. 10 Participants are selected who are professors in beauty care at universities and also aroma therapy instructors with over 10years of experience. Focus interview group underwent verification process twice to secure the validity and the reliability for the process of open-coding, categorization, and a method of constant comparison analysis. As the result of this, the capabilities for an aroma therapy educator can be categorized in 5. First, Technical competency is an ability as an aroma therapy expert. Second, Self-management competency means caring and managing of their internal and external sides as an aroma therapist or educational instructor. Third, Humane competency means having love, patience, and altruism for the others. Forth, Meta-knowledge competency is a high-level ability that allows considering further more than that is obtained thorough medium. Fifth, Ambiguous perspective competency is an ability to utilize relative concept such as you and I, inner side and qualification, strong or soft. This study suggests that it can be a basic research that presents competency and qualification for aroma therapy educator.
