The Effects of Make-up Therapy on Self-esteem and Self-efficacy in Melancholic Patients

Abstract

This study was carried out for the purpose of examining the influence of a group make-up therapy with the focus on a make-up therapy upon adult women's depression and self-efficacy. The research subjects targeted adult women with depression at the ages from 30 to 70 who dwell in Okcheon of Chungbuk and were progressed totally 8 times with once a week for 8 weeks in the whole from July 4, 2017 to August 29. To figure out the effectiveness in the process of make-up therapy, the survey was conducted so that the subjects can prepare a questionnaire on CES-D(Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale) test and the test of SEI(Self-Esteem Inventory and of SES(Self-Efficacy Scale) before and after the beginning. The subjects were observed through the talk therapy during the process. As a result of analyzing depression before and after the make-up therapy, the average melancholy following the make-up therapy can be observed a decrease by 6.2(from 27.4 to 21.2). The conclusion was obtained as saying that the improvement in image through the makeup therapy causes psychological stability and that the promotion in interpersonal relations and in self-confidence is helpful for mental health. Accordingly, this study contributes to being applied to basic data that induces an academic attention to a make-up therapy and further that the make-up therapy can solve psychological problems with seeking the valuable practical learning and self-esteem in real life as for women and is conducive to curing melancholia.
