A Study on the Effect of Silicon Aqueous Solution on Hair Permanent

Abstract
In this study, hair permanents were performed as additive with the certain amounts of silicon aqueous solution and distilled water to cysteine-based reducing agent and thio-based reducing agent respectively, as a control group and an experimental group. The following results were obtained for these sample hairs by evaluating the shape of the permanent wave, the wave retention rate, the tensile strength, and the SEM observation. First, in the cysteine system the wave shape of the treated hair showed a good curl shape in the experimental group. The length change rate also showed a meaningful value. Second, the change in the length of the treated hair piece according to the number of times of washing of the treated hair was represented by the wave retention rate, and the change in the length of the treated hair piece after 7 days of washing was also examined. These results showed that the wave maintenance ratio of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group in the cysteine system and the thio system. Third, the average tensile strength of V-H (virgin hair) was 13787.5 g/cm2, and the tensile strength of cysteine and thio-treated hair was lower than that of V-H. From these results, the significance of certain trends was not obtained. Fourth, surface morphology of cysteine and thio sample hairs through SEM observation was different between control and experimental groups. And the degree of surface damage of cysteine and thio sample hairs was also different between control and experimental groups.
