Dyeing of Hair Treated with Parmotrema reticulatum Extracts

Abstract

This study was performed on decolorized hair under various conditions - dye concentration, temperature, time, pH - using pigment extract obtained from Parmotrema reticulatum. The dyeing properties of dyed hair were measured by Lightness(L*), redness(a*), yellowness(b*), color difference and K/S value. As the result, the highest dyeing property was observed at 75%, 40oC temperature, 60 minutes and pH 12. In the case of using mordant, Fe showed higher dyestuff than Al, Fe and Mn. Hunter color of dyed hair showed yellow and red dye in non-mordant but Cu showed yellow and green yellow. These results suggest that the pigment extracts obtained from Parmotrema reticulatum may be useful for the development of natural hair dyeing products.
