The Measurement of Korea Women's Toenail Configuration for Pedicure Products Design
Eun-joo An, Jeong-hee Kim
Abstract
There are not enough size specification and systems for an available toenail product design. The purposes of this study is twofold: first, to standardize toenail configuration of adult women in Korea; second, to classify toenail configuration for the pedicure products' size system. This study directly measures the size of fingernail configuration of 300 Korean women, ranging in age from 20s to 40s with digital vernier calipers, radius gauge, and digital tape measure. The measurement result was analyzed statistically. The descriptive data analysis provides the average size of the toenail in 300 Korean women. Typical three types of toenail shape in Korean adult women were derived as the most reasonable. As for the morphological characteristics of each type, type one is classified into the largest size and the toenail shapes are similar to an average size of the toenail in 300 Korean women. The second type is the smallest size of toenails among the three types. In type 3, the toenail shapes are the widest. The measured values of toenail configuration can be applied as basic data when designing for sizing systems of toenail products or manufacturing various artificial toenail tip and toenail sticker products.
