The Effect of Problem-based learning in Hairdressing Classes

Abstract
In this paper due to the demand of improvement in university education, teaching methods are changing from simply information conveyance to student centered problem identifying and solving. Thus to identify the educational effect of creative project based learning method, hairdressing classes were held to clarify the changes on critical thinking disposition, key competency, learning satisfaction in beauty classes, and project based learning. The participants were 24 beauty-science students who took the integrated beauty practicum in the first semester on 2018. Data analysis involved paired t-test and one group pre test-post test with the SPSS 21.0 program. The result clarified a positive effect on critical thinking disposition(t=-3.438, p<.01) after using the creative project based learning method and was statistically significant. There were significant increase in the key competency(t=-3.992, p<.001), learning satisfaction in beauty-science classes(t=-11.519, p<.001) and satisfaction of project based learning(M=4.58, SD=5.00). Therefore, the effect of project based learning method used in hairdressing subjects was verified and indicates significance in increasing competency of the beauty department university students. And the application of project based learning method is effective to improve students' learning attitude and self-directed learning ability, therefore, it is also worth to try in beauty teaching.
