Research Paper : Effect of Phellinus Linteus Grown in Germinated Brown Rice on Atopic Dermatitis
Yeon Hee Lee
Abstract
Phellinus linteus grown in germinated brown rice (PB) is considered to have a number of clinically useful components with anti-inflammatory and immuno-regulatory activities. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by dysfunction of immune system. Next, to further elucidate the mechanism for PB-alleviated atopic dermatitis symptoms, the immuno-regulatory effects of PB were investigated using mouse model systems. Interestingly, Decrease in IgE level and IL-4 expression by PB was observed in NC / Nga mouse which is a representative atopic disease model mouse. These results indicate that the effect of PB on the alleviation of the atopic dermatitis might be due to the regulation of Th1 / Th2 balance. Taken all the above results together, PB is suggested to play an important role in the regulation of Th1 / Th2 responses to the alleviation of atopic dermatitis.
Key Words: Phellinus Linteus Grown in Germinated Brown Rice, IgE, IL-4, Atopic Dermatitis
