Mi Hyun Kim
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate the theoretic background of personal color diagnosis and to present the necessity of theory and tool of personal color diagnosis suitable for Korean. Studying Johannes Itten, the founder of color advice and Carole Jackson, Donna Fujii, Mary Spillane, etc as the theoretic background of color advice for this objective, the researcher compared and analyzed the representative color system in four base color system, three base color system and two base color system. First, the characteristics of "Four Base Color System" is dividing all colors into the color group based on blue and yellow, where the 2 groups, ``coldness`` and ``warmth`` can be classified into 2 small groups ``shining`` and ``vanishing light.`` Second, the characteristics of "Three Base type" increases the color of no base group in which blue base and yellow base are the center with feeling of co-existence of blue or yellow. Third, the characteristics of "Two Base type" in PCP system divide skin colors into warm class color and cool class color as well as classify skin tone into light tone, vivid tone, grayish tone and dark tone. The common point is that the color group is largely divided into blue base and yellow base. However, checking the research materials in Korea through such system, it was found that they follow the theory or tool studied in USA, Germany or Japan. Thus, it is really necessary to research to verify which level is actually appropriate to Korean.
