Research Papaer : Study on the Effect of the Fire Meridian Massage to the Serum Ingredient Change of Abdominal Obesity
Young Hee Kim, Soon Hee Lee
Abstract
Improved living standard, reduced physical activities and the growing popularity of western food have entailed a growing rate of obesity. To help people take care of their obesity, obesity management programs that have no risk of side effects should be developed. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of abdominal massage by aroma and Fire Meridian Massage on the abdominal obesity management of middle-aged women. And blood test was conducted to look for changes in their serum cholesterol, triglyceride level, high-density lipoprotein and blood sugar in order to find out how these elements were affected by aroma and Fire Meridian Massage. It`s attempted in this study to delve into overall elements related to obesity, as it`s necessary to have the right understanding of obesity and identify its causes in order to make obesity treatment successful. The subjects in this study were five women who were at the age of 33 to 59 and resided in the city of Busan. As a result, those who were more obese appeared to be higher in terms of triglyceride level, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), but there was a reduction in their high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C). This finding suggested that the management of Fire Meridian Massage by aroma had a good effect on abdominal obesity, as a decrease in obesity level was accompanied by a reduction in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and an increase in high-density liproprotein cholesterol. However, some of the women showed an increase in triglyceride level, and that of the others diminished. So the management of Fire Meridian Massage by aroma didn`t exercise a lot of influence on that. But that could generally be said to be effective in managing abdominal obesity, as their triglyceride level belonged to a standard range. During the obesity management program, the women`s ordinary dietary life and workout weren`t controlled, and that made it difficult for them to reduce their weight a lot. If subjects are asked to have control over food and their behaviors are modified, more satisfactory results will be produced.
Key Words: Abdominal Obesity, Fire Meridian, HDL-C, LDL-C, Triglyceride Level
