Abstract |
The purposes of this study were to found out the effects of male make-up and hair style on the impression perception of the stimulus person with person perception theory as the research background. The study consisted of a survey and a quasi-experiment. The experimental materials used for this study were 18 stimuli, 7-point semantic differential scales of bi-polar adjectives. The sampling method was a convenient sampling. The subjects consisted of 940 male and female undergraduate students aged from 18 to 51, in three areas including Daejoen, Cheongyang and Nonsan provinces. The data collection was conducted between May 1 and June 30, 2004. The results of this study were as follows: First, use of make-up significantly affected on impressional dimensions of salience and evaluation. No make-up wearers received more positive impression than make-up wearers. Second, the hair style of stimulus person significantly affected on four impressional dimensions of salience, potency, evaluation, and dynamic in the order of importance. Of models with straight hair style received more positive impression on potency, evaluation, salience, and dynamic dimensions than models with weak waved or strong waved hair style. |
