Research Paper : A Study on Hair of Elderly Women
Young Jin Choi
Abstract
Hair-style takes up an important part of exterior factors for old women to raise their quality of life. Especially they constantly receive hair dye or permanent wave treatments to cover aging in hair such as white hair or hair loss. Such chemical treatments make hair damaged or dry, and even prevents from producing the hair-style they want. Therefore, this study compares and studies how old women take care of their hair, and how their hair status is to women in 30s, and I expect the results of the study can be helpful to maintaining their healthy hair longer by receiving beauty treatments that suit their hair characteristics. The results of the study are as following; 1. The number of shampooing turned out to be highest for the women of 30s (p-value<0.001). As for the products they used, women over 65 use products with both the functions of shampoo and conditioner and 30s use shampoo most, whereas women over 65 always use conditioner after shampoo with the percentage of 46% and the percentage was 64% for women in 30s (p-value<0.001). As for beauty treatment practiced at home, women over 65 tended to dye their hair mostly, and women in 30s blow dried their hair most frequently. 2. Both age brackets responded more to ``damaged back hair`` than frontal hair. 3. 66% of women over 65 responded that their frontal hair ``looks damaged``, while 48% answered that their back hair ``looks damaged`` (P<0.05). 60% of women in 30s responded that their frontal hair ``looks damaged``,, while 48% answered that their back hair ``looks damaged`` (P<0.05).
