Research Paper : Effects of Lumbar and Sacral Median Massages and Ultra-Violet Ray Therapy on Curing Premenstrual Syndrome and Enhancing Vitality

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy on curing premenstrual syndrome and enhancing vitality in females who suffer from premenstrual syndrome and inconvenience in everyday life. The subjects were females in their twenties or thirties. 24 females in total were categorized into three groups and eight were assigned to each group. Lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy were performed to Experiment Group A. Only lumbar and sacral median massages were performed to Group B, and only ultra-violet ray therapy was performed to Group C. From Groups A, B, and C, the symptoms of menstrual pain and premenstrual syndrome before and after menstruation and after next menstruation were analyzed. As for vitality, it was measured before and after menstruation. A questionnaire as a datum was collected from each group. The results were as follows: 1. In Group A where both lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy were performed, menstrual pain decreased more in comparison to Groups B and C. 2. In Group A where both lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy were performed, premenstrual syndrome after next menstruation decreased more in comparison to Groups B and C. 3. In Group A where both lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy were performed, the maximum (contraction) blood pressure in vitality decreased more in comparison to Groups B and C. 4. In Group C where ultra-violet ray therapy was performed, the minimum (atony) blood pressure in vitality decreased more in comparison to Groups A and B. 5. In Group B where lumbar and sacral median massages were performed, the pulse frequency in vitality decreased more in comparison to Groups A and C. 6. In Group A where both lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy were performed, the body temperature in vitality rose more in comparison to Groups B and C. From these results, the positive effects of lumbar and sacral median massages and ultra-violet ray therapy on curing menstrual pain, premenstrual syndrome, and vitality were verified. Thus, these methods will be able to be used as effective remedies for females who suffer from premenstrual syndrome.
