| Abstract |
|
In the process of human development, adolescence could be called a highly important period as a transitional stage where one goes from childhood to adulthood physically and psychologically, solidifying one`s role as a member of society. It is also a period where major changes appear physically and mentally, and where greater importance comes to be assigned to physical appearance following rapid physical growth. As part of the period of adolescence, when individuals are influenced to be sensitive to appearance, this study focuses on male and female middle school students, seeking to determine interrelations with actions related to clothing, skin care and figure management as areas connected with body satisfaction and appearance management, and also attempting to increase understanding of what middle school students think about their appearance and bodies. To estimate degree of body satisfaction, this study uses Secord and Jourard`s (1953) Body Cathexis Scale, and 351 out of a total of 380 areas distributed were used for statistical data.
