| Abstract |
|
This research was aimed at finding out the characteristics of the behavior patterns on appearance management of eldely person (n=401) above 60 years by the lifestyle. Lifestyle groups were divided into self-development group, economically-oriented group, beauty and fashion group, and social fellowship group. In demographical point of view, women took the majority in self development and social fellowship group, while men recorded higher shares in economically oriented and beauty and fashion group. Self-development group members tended to live alone, while other groups had a higher tendency of having a married participants. Self development and social fellowship group had lower educational backgrounds, economic standing, and health, while the economically oriented and beauty and fashion groups had higher education, economic standing, and health. It was shown that there is statistically significant differencies in ``interests in appearances``, and grooming behavior (hair, skin care, body shape, apparel, cosmetic surgery). Beauty and fashion group was ranked the highest in all sections in the order of beauty and fashion>self-development>social fellowship> economically oriented groups. It was shown that there is statistically meaningful differences in grooming expenses among lifestyle group (hair p<0.01 skin p<.005 physical form p<0.01 apparel p<0.001 cosmetic surgery p<0.01). It was beauty and fashion group and economically oriented group which were ranked high in grooming expenses. Beauty and fashion group showed high interests in appearances and grooming behavior but economically oriented group showed low interests in appearances and grooming behavior while grooming expenses was shown high. |
