Using Behaviors of Permanent Wave Neutralizers, Skin Disorder and It`s Treatment in Hairdressers |

Abstract |
With the increasing interest in beauty, permanent wave has become the most widespread hair styling in Korea. The aim of this study was to examine behaviors of using permanent wave neutralizers, skin disorder caused neutralizers, using of protection devices, symptom of skin disorder and treatment effects of skin disorder in hair dressers. The 350 questionnaires were distributed to male and female hairdressers over 20`s in Seoul and Kyung-Ki province and the answer sheets were collected from 236 subjects. The general characteristics of the subjects and statistical data on frequency and percentage were calculated, relationship between causative permanent wave neutralizers, symptom of skin disorder, treatment effects of skin disorder and research subjects were analyzed by Chi-square test. In the result, permanent wave neutralizers that were used included 74.2% of hydrogen peroxide and sodium bromate, 33.5% of hairdressers identified hydrogen peroxide as a causative permanent wave neutralizers for skin disorder and 31.4% of hairdressers pointed sodiumbromate as a causative permanent wave neutralizers for skin disorder. In addition, 68.6% of hairdressers were reported not to wear protective equipment when they applied permanent wave neutralizers. Furthermore, itchiness and bleeding and chapping appeared as askin disorder and many hairdressers moisturized their affected area as a treatment. In conclusion, permanent wave neutralizers may be a inducing factor of contact dermatitis and using of protection devices can help the minimizing of skin disorder. |
