Abstract
Since color plays an important role in make-up, it is vastly required to collect objective , fundamental data to this end. The present paper deals with an analysis of make-ups appearing in 67 cover model photographs of Chinese fashion magazines by means of CNCS color system divided by types in color and image from 2008 to 2013. From the analysis, it was found, first, that R-series color was the most prevalent one used for skin in S/S make-up, and R- and YR-series colors were used mostly for eyebrow. As the year 2009 nears, YRseries color continued to be given weight while R-series color was given less weighty. Eye lines were colored all in black but eye shadow was not quite a lot affected by change of season with YR-, R-, and RP-series colors having occupied prevalent portion constantly. For chic, YR- and R-series colors continued to be highly fond of while RP-series color was popular for lip in 2008 and 2009 but, from 2010 on, RP-series color was declined whereas R-series color was increasingly attracted. Second, the analysis of S/S make-up image revealed that natural image was dominant during the years 2008 and 20102012, while elegant image was in vogue from 2009 till 2011, romantic from 2008 to 2009 and modern image was once popular during the years 20082009 and reappeared in 2012 together with ethnic image as leading one. As discussed above, the study obviously showed that versatile colors and images have been greatly preferred for make-up in china, leading to a conclusion that these findings could be successfully used for analyzing the trend of make-up to come into vogue in future.
