Abstract
The purpose of this study was to apply a transtheoretical model, to analyze factors affecting stages of change in scalp and hair health practice of modern people, and to examine stages of change. Adult males and females in their 20s through 50s were divided into Seoul and Gyeonggi, Chungnam and Daejeon, and Busan regions for a total of 600 subjects. Analysis methods included frequency analysis, factor analysis, and logistic regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: First, looking into the effect of changing process, decisional balance and self-efficacy in scalp and hair health practice on stages of change in scalp and hair health practice, and factors of changing process that affected stages of change were enhancement of consciousness in the cognitive process, environmental reassessment, self reassessment and social liberation. Second, stimulus control in behavioral process had statistically significant effect on planning stage, action stage and maintenance stage, and self liberation had statistically significant effect on planning stage and preparation stage. Third, in the relationship between changing process and decisional balance, enhancement of consciousness, self reassessment, environmental reassessment, social liberation and self liberation showed statistically significant effect on gain factor of decisional balance. Fourth, Dramatic relaxation, helping relationship and stimulus control had statistically significant effect on obstacle of decisional balance. Also for the relationship between changing process and self-efficacy, dramatic relaxation, self reassessment, environmental reassessment, counterconditioning, helping relationship and stimulus control were found to affect self-efficacy. Therefore, as higher gain factor of decisional balance and self-efficacy are affected by stages of change in scalp and hair health practice, changing process was found to have direct or indirecct effect on stages of change.
Key Words: Changing process, Decisional balance, Scalp and hair health practice, Self-efficacy, Stages of change
