Abstract |
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of roman chamomile inhalation on autonomic nervous system(ANS) of middle-aged women. The roman chamomile was inhaled for 1 minute. Electrocardiography(ECG) and electroencephalogram(EEG) were measured before, immediately after, and 10 minutes later the inhalation. As a result of the analysis of heart rate variability(HRV), low frequency(LF), high frequency(HF), total power(TP) and standard deviation of R-R intervals(SDNN) were increased. However, percentage of NN50(pNN50) was decreased. Increase in LF(p>0.50), HF, TP and decrease in pNN50 meant that activity of parasympathetic nerve was generally increased(p<0.05). The increase in SDNN reflected an increase in resistance against stress. When the amount of relative change in EEG was examined, alpha( |
