Research Paper : A Study on the Job Satisfaction Factors of Spa Therapist

Abstract
This study is to analyze factors affecting on job satisfaction of spa therapist as it is thought that job characteristics of therapists working in a spa, a professional service business based on human resources have a good deal of professional aspects requiring techniques and knowledge and there might be differences regarding the factors affecting job satisfaction from those of other service workers. Data collection was done in the way of survey with self-recording and individual interviews in the period from Oct. 10th, 2007 to Oct. 31st, 2007, and 350 questionnaires in total were distributed for therapists in hotel-spa, resort-spa and day-spa. And finally, 255 questionnaires were collected and 240 ones except 15 ones with unfaithful answers were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 statistic package program, going through the process of data cleaning process. 1. The factors affecting job satisfaction are four things; `educational training`, `relation with seniors`, `income system`, and `relation with coworkers` and job satisfaction was identified as a single composition concept. 2. All the four affecting factors on job satisfaction turned out influencing job satisfaction, and the factor, `educational training`(0.488) had the highest effect followed by `relation with seniors`(0.439), `income system`(0.295) and `relation with coworkers`(0.229) in order. 3. Regarding the result of factor measuring variables of `educational training` and regression analysis of job satisfaction, spa development possibility(0.359) showed the highest influential one on job satisfaction, followed by educational program(0.248), and chances of self-development(0.193) in order. The study has the meaning as an exploring study having done a sample survey for the national therapists as a population, and also has an academic meaning in that the factors of educational training have the biggest effect on job satisfaction; spa development possibility in spa industries, educational programs, chances of self-development, etc. Through this study, it is considered that if job satisfaction of spa therapists is high, it will have a positive effect on spa management, so just offering vision of spa center and sharing it for effective operation can increase job satisfaction of therapists. Therefore, it was offered as follows; first, proposing vision of spa center to therapists, second, strengthening internal marketing, and third, job defining of therapists & suggesting manual necessity.
