Abstract
The roots of Sophra flavescens radix are widely used as a herbal remedy for allergic inflammation like asthma, atopic dermatitis in east asia. In this study, we invested the effect of Sophra flavescens radix ethanol extract cream (SFEC) on the development of atopic dermatitis by using NC/Nga model mice. The induction of atopic dermatitis-like lesion was conducted by the removal of the back hairs and application of dermatophagoides farinae cream twice a week for 3weeks. SFEC was topically applied back and ear of NC/Nga mice (100mg/day) After 2weeks application with SFEC to the NC/Nga mice, it caused decrease in clinical skin scores, serum IgE, skin erythema and increase moisture and sebum values in the back and ear skin. These results suggest that SFEC could reduce the clinical sings and IgE in dermatophagoides farinae induced atopic dermatitis model mice. Therefore SFEC may be expected to be an appropriate treatment for atopic dermatitis patients.
