Dong Jo Han, Kil Soon Park
Abstract
This study has as its goal to examine the appearance management activities of university students, specifically examining results related to attention and activities regarding cosmetics and cosmetic surgery, and using these as a basis to develop awareness of the importance of appearance management activities and to enable more active and appropriate activities. he study was conducted over the period of November 15-24, 2006, and 425 out of a total of 460 areas distributed to four-year university students in the Daejeon area were used for statistical data. As methods of analysis, frequency and percentages were calculated, and t-test and One-Way ANOVA analyses were performed in order to determine interest and attitudes, while a correlation analysis was performed to understand the relationship between interest and activities. The results of this study show that university students` interest in or importance assigned to appearance management were acknowledged to a rather high degree, and that such interest is not helpful in terms of advancement or self-establishment as a member of society, as it is not connected with appearance management activities. Thus, it is important that measures be taken to increase awareness of the importance of appearance management and to enable active and appropriate appearance management activities.
