Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate effectiveness of abdominal self-care applying hand therapy, abdominal meridian massage using aroma blending oil, combination therapy of abdominal meridian massage using aroma blending oil and intake of catechin, an excellent antioxidant in the improvement of abdominal obesity of adult women. Meridian massage therapy, using aroma blending oil works well for improvement of abdominal obesity, weight loss and body fat decrease when the effectiveness of essential oil is added, and green tea, well-known health supplement, helps improve obesity by facilitating adipolysis. The study indicated that Group AMC had statistically significant results in terms of BMI, body fat mass, percent body fat, fat free mass (p<0.001). In addition, weight, total body water, WHR also improved (p<0.01). Group AM improved in BMI, body fat mass, percent body fat, fat free mass (p<0.05), not as much as Group AMC, though. There was a change also in Group SM, but it wasn`t significant. For serum lipid, it was most effective in TG, LDL-C, HDL-C (p<0.001), and also there was a change in TC before and after experiment (p<0.01). There was a significant change in Group AM in terms of TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C (p<0.05), not as much as Group AMC, though. Group SM made significant decrease in TG only (p<0.05). In serum change comparison among these three groups, Group AMC made significant result in terms of TG, HDL-C, compared to Group AM and Group SM. Also, Group AMC made statistically significant result in terms of TC, HDL-C compared to Group SM (p<0.05). Besides, Group AMC showed statistically significant change in TAS (p<0.001), MDA (p<0.01), 8-OHdG (p<0.05). Group AM and Group SM as well showed change, but insignificant. Change difference among these three groups before and after experiment turned out to be in significant. Putting all these findings together, intake of catechin in combination with meridian abdominal massage using aroma blending oil works effectively to improve and prevent obesity and the chances are high that this combination therapy can be utilized as alternative program to improve obesity and prevent dyslipidemia in the future.
Key Words: Aroma abdominal massage, Catechin, Body composition, Serum lipid, Total antioxidant status
