Abstract

Korean traditional patterns reflect the emotions and spirit of the Korean people, show Koreans` thoughts, and are expressed in various ways according to the ethnic nature and lifestyle. In addition, such colors and patterns imply the subjective way of thinking and result from the creative civilization as well as the cultural activity. Art make-up involves the use of patterns in harmony with the flexible nature of utilizing and moving shapes and lines of a human body, which requires creative and original expressions. Today, art make-up is not merely a concept of beauty-care, but a type of artistic expression that delivers feelings as means of communication. With these common elements as a visual language, we endeavored to express the beauty of Korea by connecting Korean traditional patterns to art make-up. In the area of art make-up as well, there should be a lot of creation works in application of Korean materials and characteristics so that Korean art make-up can be developed as a genre of art.
