Research Paper : An Analysis of Secondary Cosmetology Teacher Employment Test by the 7th National Curriculum

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the appropriateness of the item distribution of the examinations for the selection of secondary teacher candidates (the Cosmetology teacher exam) between 2003 and 2009 from the perspectives of subject-matter content and subjectmatter education. The objectives of the 7th national curriculum were selected as the analysis criteria of subject-matter content, and as for subject-matter education, the exams were analyzed by year according to educational objectives. As a result, the exams were most concerned with skin care in terms of subject-matter content, followed by hair care, makeup and public health. In each field of hair care, skin care, makeup and public health, the exams dealt with permanent wave, the structure and function of skin, nail art and disinfection/ contagious diseases the most respectively. A high percentage of the items covered subject-matter education in and after 2005, and the exams set more segmented questions that required profound knowledge in and after 2007. Given the findings of the study, the following conclusion was reached: The questions of the exam should evenly be selected from different areas, and institutional measures should be taken to accelerate the improvement of the exam. Questions that are of a new type and has a high degree of difficulty should be set, and it`s needed to take a new, long-term approach to the appointment system and examination to ensure the sustainable development of education.
