Young Hee Noh, Jang Min An
Abstract
The purpose of this study is, through researching a Japanese up-style in conjunction with the Japanese traditional cloth, Kimono, to help to understand a system of the advanced Japanese up-style and to make it a basis of the system and the foundation of beauty art. From many references and other studies, we could divide the up-style into three parts and the results of the study are followed: The Japanese up-style was just one of the hair style, but it changed as the class society made the difference between ruler and the ruled. Throughout the Edo-period, it was systemized in Meiji-period, and in the modern age it was set as the up-style of now and the Kimono. Kimono has all different styles depending on the textures, the shapes, the colors, the manner of wearing, and the marriage. Also, it is even different for the rules of etiquette. Consequently, it can be separated into the 10 forms. The Japanese up-style has 5 parts: Maegami, Ryoubin, Tabo, Mage. And now there are 8 kinds of forms remained. The Japanese up-style(Kimono style) is studied by not only Japanese but also many others with different interests. Even though Korea has the history of up-style connected with the Korean traditional cloth, Hanbok, just like Japan does, there are not many of studies about it. From what we could learn throughout this study, we hope that there would be more interests and more researches in the Korean up-style as well as the Japanese one.
Key Words: Japane, Kimono, Up-Style, Edo Period, Meiji-Period
