Abstract
The experimental design for this study was a nonequivalent control group nonsychronized design. Samples of this study were 41 patient, the researcher sampled those patients appealing symptoms of osteoarthritis to public healthcare centers or hospitals in J-city or its nearby regions. The data were collected for 8 weeks from September 5 through October 30, 2005. The subjects were 41 patients who had been diagnosed as osteoarthritis patients by hospitals, and thereby, they were divided into test group (n=21) and control group (n=20). The tools used for this study were pain and physical functions were used the Korean WOMAC-KNEE scale developed by Bellamy(1989) and modified and supplemented by Bae, etc. (2001), and for depression, used the SDS (Self-Rating Depression Scale) conceived by Zung (1965) and translated by Shin Seok-cheol (1977). The foot reflexo-massage was applied using a massaging cream and rod 3 times per week for 4 weeks. The protocol consisted of warming up, relaxing massage, stimulating of reflex points, relaxing and drinking. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 statistic program for percentages for subjects` demographic variables and symptoms of their osteoarthritis, x2-test and t-test for homogeneity between two groups, and t-test, paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA for testing the hypotheses. The result of this study were summarized: `The scores of pain of foot reflexo-massage and control group will be significant differences after foot reflexo-massage treatment` was supported (F=155.77, p=.000). `The scores of physical function of foot reflexo-massage group and control group will be significant differences after foot reflexo-massage treatment` was supported (F=163.11, p=.000). `The scores of depression of foot reflexo-massage and control group will be significant differences after foot reflexo-massage treatment` was supported (F=20.00, p=.000). In conclusion this study showed that the foot reflexo-massage is effective in relieving of pain and physical functions and relieving them of depression of the patients suffering from osteoarthritis.
