Research Paper : A Study on the Effect of Women`s Hairstyles on Their Emotions and Their Preferences for Hairstyles according to Individual Characteristics

Abstract
This study aims to identify the relationship of women`s preferences for hairstyles and the effect of their hair styles on emotions, and with this aim the study collected data using the demographic characteristics of 220 women by age, changes in and management of hair styles, and a survey tool asking about mood state before and after the hair styling. Then, the study obtained the following results by using an x2-test and a t-test on the collected data. First, it was discovered concerning hairstyles that the preferred hairstyle, the number of visits to a hair salon, the hair-related information source, the hair styling method, the hair treatment method, and the satisfaction with the hairstyle were significant according to age. Second, it was found concerning hairstyles that the preferred hairstyle, the number of visits to a hair salon, and the hair-related information source were significant according to occupation. Third, regarding hairstyles, there was significance according to the number of visits to a hair salon and the hair treatment methods, but there was no significant difference in satisfaction with hair styles according to income, and satisfaction with hairstyles was found not to be affected by income. Fourth, changes in and management of hairstyles were significant according to mood state, and they were discovered to affirmatively affect mood state before and after hair styling. When summarizing these results, with regard to women`s preferences for hairstyles and the effect of hairstyles on emotions, there were significant differences in hairstyles according to women`s ages, occupations, and incomes, and changes in and management of hair styles were highly effective on mood state. Also, women have been found to desire to change their moods positively through various methods besides working out. Among others, changes and management of hairstyles are highly influential.
