Kil Young Lee, Ju Duck Kim
Abstract
Generally, stress brings about dark skin color, dry skin, or skin resistant to cosmetic application. The relation between stress and skin color or moisture tends to be viewed in these terms. However, there are only few reviews of relations between skin color and moisture as well as these factors. This study reviewed relations between mental and physical stress in daily life and changes in skin color and moisture by measuring stress level and skin color and moisture of healthy women aged 20~40 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The review took place five times on the first day, after 7 days, 15 days, 1 month, and 2 months. The results are as follows. First, the test subjects showed significantly higher stress levels on the first day compared to other test dates and the skin color level increased in the same significant way. However, on the 15th day, stress level and skin color level decreased. Second, on the 15th day when stress level was lower, skin moisture significantly increased. Third, stress level of female subjects in their 20s, 30s, and 40s significantly increased on the first day of measurement and significantly fell on the 15th day. As for color levels, those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s increased significantly on the first day of measurement and fell on the 15th day of measurement. As for skin value and chroma, there was no significant difference by age. Skin moisture on the 15th day of measurement was significantly higher than those of other measuring points of time and significantly lower skin moisture on the first day of measurement than other measurement days. The results of this study clarified that physical and mental stress certainly affected skin color and moisture of women aged 20~40.
Key Words: Stress, Skin color, Skin moisture
